Looking for the River

John and Diana of New Jersey and Dave and Carolyn of Texas found themselves enjoying the whitewater of the Rogue River and then venturing off to Crater Lake National Park together, but separate! Both couples were new to rafting, but seasoned travelers.
The headwaters of the Rogue River are out of Boundary Springs. The water gurgles forth with energy and enthusiasm from underground springs up near Crater Lake, but not out of the lake.

Gathering from Florida, Washington, California and Oregon

They didn't know one another before they arrived, but after a day on the river, they parted as friends! The Basso Family from Florida, the Scoville's from Oregon and the Hall Family from Southern California enjoyed all three boating types on the trip: Oar frame raft, (Thanks Wayd!), Paddle Raft (Thanks Karyn!) and Inflatable Kayaks (Thanks Alyssa!) were all on the river today.

The folks in Wayd's boat were treated to the "Southern Oregon Red Headed Bald Eagle"! Sounds like a fish tale to us, too! There were a few Turkey Vultures looking for a free handout, along with deer, osprey, otter and beaver traveling and foraging the same river route that we enjoyed today. Thanks to Beverly at the Rogue Forest Inn we spent some river time with Kathie, Rick, Jordan and Tina. They were on to Wayd's moving lips and tall tales and enjoyed both the inflatable kayaks the ride in the Rogue Inflatable.

The paddlers in the Blue Rocket Boat were eager to test out their newly discovered skills and ready to conquer "the big stuff!". Roz and Wade brought their three kids to the Rogue before the University Days and School Days got too busy! Isaac, Joe and Sara were thrilled by the newly discovered joy of paddling as a family team. Their Olympic paddling efforts paid off as one and all were soaked by the water, and enjoyed great rides through many rapids.

Sarah and Megan, sisters from Portland and Seattle met on the Rogue River for some R and R and enjoyed whitewater action in the inflatable kayaks, as well as the big orange raft. Their energetic companionship was contagious and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. What a great trip from so many people. Thanks for sharing the Good Life on the Rogue with us!

Star Wars and Water Wars!

The Johnsons enjoyed the whitewater run through Hellgate Canyon and could have easily written a scene in the timeless canyons of the Rogue River from Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or the Hobbit! They all agreed Gandalf would have decidedly found a great hiding place in the ancient grey-colored rock walls. The Johnson family eagerly greeted all that the Half Day Trip had to offer: terrific whitewater, fantastic scenery and a hint of mystery in the every present history of the landscape. Thanks for joining us! Enjoy the pictures.

Newlywed Running and then Rafting

Matt and Kristy were married in June, ran a marathon and then decided to run the river! Lucky for us they preferred the floating and paddling to the long runs! Matt is stationed in Washington now and will leave for oversees soon. Thank you Matt for your service and thank you to the newlyweds for your inspiring energy and a great day on the water!

Birthday Bash to Remember on the Rogue!

What an amazing birthday celebration for just-turned-fifty-on-the-Rogue Lydia! Her good buddy Teresa made all the plans for a visit to Southern Oregon, a rafting excursion, cozy cabin with the deer walking through the meadow along the river bank, and arrangements for a blackberry cobbler and chocolate stack that included chocolate covered strawberries, brownies and chocolate chip cookies to be served at our riverside lunch. The weather was perfect, the company was super and the memories are unforgettable!

Thank you to Sue, Zac, Kamil, and Dillon who showed everyone how to paddle an inflatable kayak, laugh as a family, and live life with no regrets. The Ahmid Family were fabulously fun and can plan on the blackberry cobbler cake anytime they come rafting!

Thank you one and all for making a day on the river and a special birthday so memorable! We hope you will all come back soon!

Girls Galore!

David and Scott may have been outnumbered 13 to 2 on the river, but they didn't seem to mind! Mingling family vacations and Girl Scouts out for the Adventure Badge made a great combination of fun, water fights and fearless paddling! Karen, Jackie, Christy, Scott and David traveled down from Seattle area to test the waters in both the raft and inflatable kayaks. Stacy, Aggie, Kaari, Amy, Zelda, and Amber journeyed from Tacoma to obtain the Girl Scout High Adventure Badge.

There were some fantastic rides through many rapids! Karen was awarded the whitewater floating position in Galice and Amy earned a special honor in Argo. The jousting session was fantastic with balancing acts from everyone. Jackie and David took turns or rode together through many of the rapids on the bow of the boat in great style!

Mid afternoon we were able to view a black bear eating lunch along the river bank that consisted of river weed and blackberries. The young cub didn't seem to mind the company and of course we all agreed that was another badge: Black Bear on the Water! Thanks for a great trip full of good cheer and adventure.

Gold Panning on the Rogue

Beating the heat with Jeff and Tammi was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with temperatures soaring up to 110 degrees in the Rogue Valley. We lunched at a beautiful spot in the shade with the tables and chairs set up in the water. After a lunch time swim, River Guide, Tim rowed the crew downstream to a "Secret-Gold-Panning-Site"! Jeff dug low, Kari scouted high and between all of the digging, swishing, laughing and looking they discovered Gold in them-there hills! Of course the tiny flakes look magnified in the water, but the color in the pan was still very exciting.

We found more swimming holes to keep cool in on such a warm day. Tammi decided to ride the bull through Lower Argo and looked like a pro. It was a terrific day on the river with Jeff and Tammi: great river companions, friends and terrific gold prospectors!
