Rogue River in December

Autumn is nearing a close as all of the festivities and celebrations of December are quickly approaching. Outside the river is free from the hustle and bustle of this busy time of year. Take time to get out and enjoy a peaceful and easy feeling along the Rogue.

Snow on the Rogue

It has been such a beautiful autumn all along the river and as we near the end of the fall in the Rogue Valley, Mother Nature has treated us to a light snow. The bald eagles, great blue herons, and snowy white egret enjoy the river in the winter months too. Take a drive, a hike, a walk, but be sure to get out and about even on the dark and stormy days!

Little Mink Friends!

We were so lucky on one of the fall floats to capture to cutest little American Mink. She was quite curious about us too and we captivated her attention just long enough to get a photo!

Then, very quickly she ran up the hill, away from the rocky den, and tried to distract us from her home.

Sometimes we can see the mink swimming across the river, fishing, or playing in the canyons! This time, with all of the golden-red colors of autumn, we got a special performance by the mink!

Rogue River Autumn

Spending time on the Rogue River in the fall is a beautiful time of year. The sun rises lower in the sky and changes the color of the canyons, trees, and water. Adding in the golden hues of the leaves changing and there is more gold to be found on the Rogue River! Come and see it for yourself!

It is a beautiful time of year to pitch a tent and hang out along the banks of the Rogue River. Trees are beginning to shimmer like jewels with the autumn color, the days are warmer, the rapids are bigger, and life just keeps getting better! How about a cup of camp coffee?!

Rafting in the Rain on the Rogue

There is no such thing as bad weather for rafting! You just need to wear the right clothes for the kind of weather you are rafting in on any particular day. Mary, Gary, and Matt joined us from Kansas!

They were hearty and happy paddlers, campers and hikers!

It was a beautiful day on the water and the company couldn't have been better!

Thanks for coming and we hope to see you all back here soon!

Rogue River Action Figures!

Traveling the Rogue River with Matt is a rare treat! He is capable of many extraordinary skills such as paddling his own kayak, riding the bull, and warding off battling pirates in water wars, but the best super hero act by Matt is watching him slip into the river for a swim in super slow motion! Thanks for all of the fun times on the river, we just need to find a cape for you now!

Rogue River Rafting in September

September is such a beautiful time of year on the Rogue River. The colors on the canyon walls are changing, the leaves are beginning to turn color, the sun sits just a little bit lower in the sky and the shadows cast on longer.

Jeff and John brought their dad, Brian along to go rafting and camping on the Rogue as an annual Boys Trip. They planned the perfect wilderness escape. Grants Pass was the central meeting spot between Seattle and The Bay Area. They grilled pancakes for breakfast and then rode the waves with River Man, Tim. Thanks for a terrific day!

The Heat is On!

Take it to the river when the heat is on! We had such a great time with the Strunk Family of Paddlers! They know how to have a fun day in the Southern Oregon heat!

As the temperatures soared over 100 degrees yesterday, the best place to be was on the Rogue River or swimming in the water.

Here is the crew at one of our favorite swimming holes at the end of Bailey Creek Canyon.

Mike, Ellika, Monica, and Chikako were powerful paddlers and had a great ride in Argo Falls Rapid.

The family high five at the end of a great run! Thanks for spending a day on the river with us. We look forward to seeing you again!

Rogue River Textures

The Rogue has many different moods that are revealed in the ever changing light on the canyon walls, on the water, and in the fresh, clear Oregon air! Here is a happy bunch of Kayakers playing in the eddies of Hellgate Canyon on a partly cloudy day.

The water is cool, the air temperatures are hot, and the rafting is terrific!

Hot Summer Days

The temperatures on the Rogue River are reaching over 100 degrees these days. This is not unusual for Southern Oregon as we have our own little micro climate here! The best way to enjoy the heat of the day is to spend it on the river or in the river! Here are a couple of our recent favorites keeping cool on a hot day.

Rogue River Rafting Half Day Trip

What a amazing sight! This gorgeous bird soared above our heads and graced us with her beauty from wing tip to wing tip. This is an osprey and there is a healthy population of this fish-diving hawk on the Rogue River. We see them dive straight into the water at speeds up to 30 miles per hour to grab a fish that can weigh as much as 2 times the body weight of the osprey!

There is a lot of fishing going on as the adult birds are preparing the fledglings for flight. It won't be long before the young ones leave the nest. In the meantime, we will take advantage of the airshow!

Yoga Retreat on the Rogue

We had a specialty trip with a group of yoga enthusiasts who made their way to Southern Oregon for a Yoga Retreat on the Rogue River. The All Women's Retreat was filled with a delicious variety of fresh whole foods,

a beautiful balance of old and new friendships, and a lot of laughter!

The ladies had time for yoga, camping, paddling, rafting, relaxing, and a little more yoga to wrap it all up.

There was even some stunt yoga on the raft on the river by the very talented yoga instructor, Kelly!

It was a great trip and we will have many more Yoga Retreats on the Rogue!

Beauty All Around

There are so many dramatic vistas, deep canyons, old growth forests, and rumbling whitewater to enjoy on the Rogue River. There are also the tiny little treasures that bring along magical moments everyday.

Here is a pair of Western Tiger Swallowtail butterflies on a blackberry bush. The female will lay up to one hundred eggs and in just a few short days, the little caterpillars will emerge from the egg. Our rafters are delighted by the friendly little butterflies as they flit and flutter from one sun hat to another! Be sure to take the time to take in all of the beauty around you.

Big Waves and Lunch with a Bear!

What a wonderful day on the river. We had lunch with a black bear. Everyone was very polite: the bear stayed on her side of the river eating greens and we stayed on our side of the river eating sweet fruit. We gave one another an occasional nod and parted ways when we were full!

Then off to bigger water and a great ride from the paddling team. Blue skies and temperatures in the 80's make Rafting in Oregon a dream come true destination!
