Summer Sensations!

Drifting in the cool water while the air temperatures hover in the 90 degree range; Paddling with family and friends in the Rocket Boat; Cloudless deep blue skies; The smell of sweet, ripe blackberries drifting across the river; Water gun fights with friendly and enemy pirates; Lunch served daily at the river's edge; The greatest selection of skipping rocks you have ever seen; Snowy white egrets flying over blue-green water; Mountains full of evergreen and deciduous trees; The chattering call of the belted kingfisher; Riding the bull through whitewater rapids. These are a few of the end of summer sensations that everyone is enjoying on the river these days. Come on out to play!

Rogue River Rafting in September

September is such a beautiful time of year on the Rogue River. The colors on the canyon walls are changing, the leaves are beginning to turn color, the sun sits just a little bit lower in the sky and the shadows cast on longer.

Jeff and John brought their dad, Brian along to go rafting and camping on the Rogue as an annual Boys Trip. They planned the perfect wilderness escape. Grants Pass was the central meeting spot between Seattle and The Bay Area. They grilled pancakes for breakfast and then rode the waves with River Man, Tim. Thanks for a terrific day!

Hot Summer Days

The temperatures on the Rogue River are reaching over 100 degrees these days. This is not unusual for Southern Oregon as we have our own little micro climate here! The best way to enjoy the heat of the day is to spend it on the river or in the river! Here are a couple of our recent favorites keeping cool on a hot day.

Rogue River Raft Trips

Here we are at the end of an early season, late evening trip on the banks of the Rogue River. The 2010 season is upon us, and we are ready to ride the waves, drift through the deep canyons, bask in the Southern Oregon sunshine, and enjoy River Time!

Come on out for a river lunch with O'Brien's Rogue River Outfitters. You will be glad you brought your appetites!

Wild Lupine in Bloom

The wild lupine is in full bloom all along the river. The purple is so striking in contrast to the rugged layer of rocks and the rich green colors of spring. The water is still traveling at a healthy flow and Lost Creek dam is nearly full. This means plenty of water for summer time rafting and fun with family! Take a deep breath, you just might smell the lupine!

Dutch Oven Love

Nothing says love like Dutch Oven cooking! Here on the Rogue River, guides love to cook outdoors and along the banks of the Rogue. Open fire cooking, campfire roasting, and all of the delicious smoke-y smells that go along with it.

Dutch Oven cooking has become an art form! There is no end to the possibilities of what can be made at the fire and with some hot coals. Anything from a complete turkey dinner to breakfast omelets to peach cobbler and River Brownies. You are only limited by your imagination and which river to choose!

Are you hungry yet?

Let's Do Lunch!

River lunches are some of the most memorable times of the day. All of the hustle and bustle of everyday life has slipped away into River Time. Suddenly, hunger strikes hard! Don't worry, you will be well fed and well taken care of at O'Brien's!

Discover a wide variety of freshly picked vegetables from the garden at O'Brien's headquarters, fruits ripened on the trees, a fresh strawberry patch ready with sweet, juicy, goodness, and sandwich wraps filled with turkey and basil, or mandarin orange chicken will satisfy the heartiest appetite. If these tasty treats don't take care of the hunger pangs, then the River Brownies or Guide Cookies will surely do the trick. Let's make plans to do lunch soon!

Oregon Wild Flowers

Oregon's state flower is the Oregon Grape. It has the prettiest yellow blossoms, the shiniest green leaves, and the tiniest little grapes you have ever seen. The Oregon Grape grows wild across Oregon and among our favorite places to find this glowing little bush is near boat ramps, along the river bank, and nestled in the madrone, manzanita, and maples. Get out on the wild side to get a glimpse of some great surprises.

River Time

River Guides Alyssa and Austin, aka the A Team, paddled and played with the Schelhorn Family of British Columbia today. The family has been exploring all of the natural treasures found in Southern Oregon from hiking the rim of Crater Lake to camping and rafting the Rogue River.

Everybody got to test out the inflatable kayaks and rest the weary hiking legs in exchange for and upper body work out. Lunch along the riverbank included wild rice and grape salad, tomato, tomatillo and cucumber salad, fresh garden vegetables, Oregon berries and some deep, dark, fudgy river brownies!

What a great day to be on the Rogue River.

Rogue River Raft Trips

It could have been the double eagle fly by or the family of river otters that came up to chatter hello. It may have been the wild turkey playing peek a boo on the gravel bar in the intermittent tall grasses or the gorgeous blue sky above. Then there was the riverside lunch and the blue green water that drifted along begging for more attention. Of course, the Rogue River Raft Trip with Steve, Ivy and Alec, was perfectly wonderfully for all of these reasons and more.
This is what life on the Rogue is all about!
